Primary Priorities: An Update

If you’ve been following along since the early blog days, you’ll remember that Billy and I bought our first home together back in December. I was ready to dive headfirst into renovations—paintbrush in one hand, Pinterest board in the other.

But then… life laughed.

The sellers stayed in the house an extra month. We found multiple roof leaks (fun!). And instead of selling Billy’s old house, we decided to turn it into a short-term rental—because we clearly didn’t have enough going on already.

Needless to say, the original renovation timeline got thrown out the (newly leaking) window.

My dreamy plan? Tackle the primary suite first so we could settle in quickly and start slow-living in our new home. But life had other plans. So the suite—while totally functional—got bumped to the backburner. It's not bad, just… not my style. Think builder-grade beige, not cozy-modern-English-cottage vibes.

Now, if you know me, you know I’m not the type to wait for a “perfect plan” to get started. While I need a detailed plan and itinerary in a lot of aspects of my life, for whatever reason, interior design doesn’t qualify for those rules. Nope—I cannonball into projects with zero hesitation and figure it out as I go. It’s chaotic. It’s inefficient. It’s very me. So even with everything else on our plate, I decided any sliver of free time we had could be poured into the bathroom.

We haven’t had the time to make huge strides, but here’s what we have done—and I’m honestly so excited about every little win:

  1. Painted the walls two-tone – Since we’re installing board and batten, I wanted some contrast above it. A small change that’s already making a huge impact.

  2. Found the antique cabinet of my dreams – She’s perfect. She’s charming. She brings much-needed storage and soul to the space.

  3. Gave the vanity a glow-up – Painted it black for a moodier feel. I spray painted the hardware gold in the meantime, but I’ve got my eye on some vintage replacements soon.

  4. Quick mirror refresh – Spray painted the existing mirrors black. They’re staying for now, but one day I’ll upgrade to something larger and more statement-worthy.

  5. New vanity lights – Found the prettiest gold lights on Facebook Marketplace and Billy worked his magic to get them installed.

  6. Installed board and batten – Yep, we did it ourselves. And no, we didn’t get divorced during the process. A win all around.

It’s slow progress, but it’s progress—and every step makes this house feel a little more us. With everything else we’ve got going on, this bathroom project has honestly kept me grounded (and inspired!). I seriously can’t wait for the day we can move in full time, wrap up the short-term rental, and start pouring all our energy into making this space feel like home.

Thanks for following along—we’re so close to finishing this room, and I can’t wait to show you the final reveal!
